Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Coral Lustre (Review)

Here in landlocked Minnesota I'll never get a glimpse of the coral reef--but Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lipcolor in Coral Lustre ($7.49 at ULTA.com) may be just as good.

For makeup enthusiasts with dry lips, Maybelline promises it has a "creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar," with the crisp staying power of a lipstick.

And it feels so, so good.  Like butter.  In fact, it feels just like Revlon Lip Butter--but with richer, thicker pigmentation.

I can never say no to coral...or bacon.

Though it won't give you opaque color in one swipe, Coral Lustre is a very buildable color, allowing you to control the opaqueness and intensity of color.  A few swipes will nourish your lips with a hint of coral, whereas several swipes will build up to a creamy consistency that reminds me of MAC Lipstick in Ravishing.

Coral Lustre feels very smooth and soft on the lips, so there's no drag here; it also doesn't shift around too much, so you don't have to worry about bleeding.

Left: No lipstick.  Right: Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Coral Lustre applied.

Because of its creaminess, Coral Lustre doesn't last long on the lips; I got around 3 hours of wear.  While drinking or eating, it wore off immediately so I had to reapply, but reapplication was hassle-free.  Its wear time reminds me a lot of Revlon Lip Butters--in fact, I would describe Coral Lustre as a more pigmented version of these lip butters.

As a plus, it doesn't leave a ring around your mouth when it wears off; it fades away slowly and evenly and makes your lips feel soft hours after it's worn off.

On pale skin tones, I think Coral Lustre is workable as an everyday lip, due to its color and moisturization; your lips won't feel dry or flaky from constant use.  Lip liner is optional with this lip gloss, and its natural sheen also makes lip gloss unnecessary to finish off the look.  I feel that this may be too bright for darker complexions--perhaps try a Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick a shade or two darker.  Personally, I think it's a fantastic shade and looks to be a near dupe of MAC Lipstick in Ravishing (it's slightly pinker).

I should really start smiling in photos, cause this looks kind of creepy.  But I'm actually really tired.

Would I Repurchase?

Definitely!  Although its wear is a bit short, I think this is a great everyday lipstick for pale skintones...like mine.  Since the sun apparently hates me.  I think I'm part-vampire, actually...
