Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick in Petal Rebel (REVIEW)

When I laid eyes on this lipstick, I knew it was love at first right.

Or perhaps buy at first sight...

Maybelline calls it Color Whisper in Petal Rebel ($7.49 at select retailers), a soft, nourishing lip color that reminds me of Revlon's ColorBurst Lip Butters.  For unforgivingly chapped or dry lips, this lipstick is a charm worker--smoothing over your lips with "sexy, soft, see through color."

For low maintenance color coupled with the hydrating effects of a lip balm, Petal Rebel is a must have.

Oh, and that color, that's a color that needs to stay in my life.  Forever.

Color Whisper in Petal Rebel, my must have.

Application

Unlike traditional lipsticks, Color Whisper is a more of a lip balm and lipstick hybrid, meaning it's more forgiving on the lips.  There's no drag or tugging here--it applies smoothly with semi-opaque coverage.  Bright lipsticks emphasize my lip imperfections, but the creaminess of Petal Rebel helped mask them.  Its moisturization is unbelievable, almost watery on the lips.

Because of its semi-opaque, smooth coverage, lip liner isn't necessary; it applies evenly without bleeding or feathering.

Left: Bare lips.  Right: Color Whisper in Petal Rebel applied.  Ooh, so pink.

Wear

Because Petal Rebel isn't a true lipstick (it's better described as a tinted lip balm), expect the wear time to be short.  On average, I get around 1-2 hours of wear without eating or drinking; if I get the munchies, this lipstick rubs off easily.  I don't expect tinted lip balms to have a long wear time, but even Petal Rebel ran a bit short in this department--with other tinted lip balms, such as Revlon's ColorBurst Lip Butters, I get a couple of more hours of wear time.

The effect it creates once it wears off is lovely--it leaves a slight stain and moisturized lips.

Color

This color is the quintessential Barbie pink.  On pale skin, the pinkness brings out the fullness and suppleness of your lips without looking too noticeable; on darker skin tones, it's like a toned down Nicki Minaj (if that's even possible).  I think this color is universally flattering and easily works as an everyday lip, since the color isn't too bold.  When my lips are too parched to handle traditional lipstick, I usually reach for this--just apply and go.

As you can tell, I am terribly excited over this lipstick.

Would I Repurchase?

Yes--in fact, I already have!  I somehow misplaced Petal Rebel after a quick shopping trip in Coon Rapids, so I bought a new bullet yesterday.  I truly love the color and ease of use of this lipstick, though I'm a bit disappointed with its lackluster wear time.

XOXO,

Minsooky
