Maybelline Electric Orange Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor (REVIEW)

Admittedly, Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in Electric Orange ($5.49 at Target.com) doesn't look very orange here.  In fact, it looks full-on coral*--kind of like the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Coral Lustre, which I reviewed (very favorably!) two weeks ago.

But this is not even close to being coral.  Not even!

Instead, it's a strong, vivid orange that lavishes lips with creamy, bold opaqueness that could turn a few heads.

It's a bold, bright color that I personally love--but you may have second thoughts.

Application

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids promise to have a "creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar," and I find this holds true here.  It's bold, but gentle on the lips, adding creamy, opaque color in just a couple of swipes.  For less intense color, you can also opt to pat it on, which will tint lips orange.

As an added bonus, there's no need for lip liner here.  The creamy base is also balanced out by incredible, moisturizing staying power, so it doesn't feather or bleed, unlike other creamy lipsticks.

Wear

With most moisturizing lipsticks, I find that they don't last very long, and Electric Orange is no exception here.  Without eating or drinking, it lasts a mere 3-4 hours; it lasts even less if you plan to eat or drink.  You'll need to touch up often to retain its opacity.  As an upside, Electric Orange also leaves behind a strong, orange stain, so it won't be immediately obvious your lipstick has gone AWOL once it wears down.

You know what rhymes with orange? I don't know either, but I just had bacon and it was yummy.

Color

As an everyday lip, I don't think most people will reach for Electric Orange--this is about as orange as orange lipsticks get!  If you love bold color, however, then this may be the lipstick for you, either worn as is or patted on the lips as a light stain.

Alternatively, you can also apply Electric Orange in the middle of your lips and smooth it out for a soft, easy gradient lip.  Many ulzzangs (얼짱) and Korean celebrities usually incorporate orange lipstick using the gradient method.

Would I Repurchase?

Absolutely.  The color payoff of Electric Orange is incredible; it's also easy to work with and doesn't dry out my lips.  For the price (less than $10!), this is a great find, and something I'd love to keep in my makeup bag.
