Just Got My Julep IT GIRL Maven March Box! [Pictures]

I've been holed up in my tiny apartment due to a sudden blizzard (thank you, Minnesota), but I didn't have to venture far to get my hands on new nail polish.

Lo and behold, in my mailbox was the Julep Maven March Box, filled with three new nail polishes and a nourishing lip balm. Depending on which profile you fit under, you may have received two nail polishes, a hand creme, and a lip balm instead.

My Maven profile says I'm an IT GIRL, so no hand creme for me. :)

From left to right: Julep lip balm; Julep nail polish in Shenae; Julep nail polish in Simone; Julep nail polish in Teri.

What's in the Julep Maven March Box?

If you're an IT GIRL, you'll get three fun new nail polishes that are bright and Spring-like.  Pictured below are Shenae, Simone, and Teri.

These shades look dull here, but they're actually more vibrant in person.
None of these colors, unfortunately, are particularly unique.  Shenae is a light, mint green nail polish with just a hint of duo chrome sparkle.  Sally Hansen in Mint Sorbet is almost an exact dupe of this, minus the sparkle.    Simone is a light pastel purple with a hint of sparkle as well, although it doesn't show up when applied to bare nails.  Teri is your basic orange with no discernible shimmer.  It's a lighter version of Sally Hansen in Orange Impulse, but with the same, goopy, thick consistency that makes it difficult to apply.

IT GIRLS will also receive a strawberry mint lip balm, a super-smooth, nourishing balm that reminds me of Smackers.  It smells incredibly fruity and leaves a nice, translucent sheen on my lips that lasts for an hour or so.

Wearing Julep lip balm and nothing else!  Er, on my face that is...
A square-shaped lip balm if you're square.  I'm actually just round, but oh well.

Meh, Smeh

While Shenae, Simone, and Teri are good Spring colors, they're not exactly unique; cheaper brands such as Sally Hansen and Sinful Colors produce similar dupes that have comparable finishes and drying times.

Julep nail polishes are usually average on the dry and wear scale, taking 3-4 minutes to dry and last for a couple of days (with top coat).  Teri was a bit goopy, whereas Simone was the easiest to apply and was nearly opaque in one coat.  Shenae and Teri took two coats to reach full opacity.

Wearing all three shades on my thumb, index, and middle fingers.  Oh, and on my ring finger I'm wearing Essie in Turquoise & Caicos.

On a positive note, hooray for more lip balm!  I like how this feels on my lips.  My lips feels plumper and more moisturized too, without an overtly greasy residue.

Overall, this month's box didn't dazzle me, but I've got my fingers crossed for more unique shades in next month's box.

XOXO,

Minsooky

  2. Is this your first Julep box? I've been contemplating trying it out since I was kind of disappointed with Birchbox and Glossybox this month. :\

  3. No, I've been with Julep since September. Funny you should mention that, I've been thinking about signing up for Glossybox.
