Maybelline Fuchsia Flash Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick (Review)

For something that's a smidgen less intense than MAC's Candy Yum Yum, I've discovered the perfect drugstore buy: Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in Fuchsia Flash ($7.49 at various retailers).

Intensely pigmented and super smooth, I'm in love with Fuchsia Flash because it's kind on my dry lips, which Maybelline credits to its "honey nectar formula."  You won't smell any hint of it, but evidently, it's there.

Another love: Fuchsia Flash doesn't bleed or feather, so lip liner isn't necessary.  A win win.

For easy, buildable color, this lipstick is an ease to use, being both somewhat thick but incredibly soft and moisturizing on the lips.  It packs plenty of pigment no matter how you use it, but for the most intense pigmentation, a couple of swipes should do.  For a lighter, more wearable stain, I gently pat it on my lips and top it off with clear lip gloss.

Left: No lipstick; Middle: Fuchsia Flash patted on lips; Right: Full swipe of Fuchsia Flash.
Lip liner isn't necessary for Fuchsia Flash, although it may be necessary if you want the color to last all day long.  This lip color has enough pigmentation and staying power (it doesn't bleed!) that using lip liner isn't necessary, however.

Fuchsia Flash feels smudge-proof, and its wear time attests to this fact--it only starts fading after 5 to 6 hours.  However, I don't feel the typical signs of dryness when Fuchsia Flash wears off, aside from a light, pink stain.  My lips are terribly dry, but Fuchsia Flash doesn't make it worse, which I absolutely love!

Some slight fading on the inner part of the lips after 5 hours of wear.

For me, I feel that Fuchsia Flash isn't a very wearable, everyday color; it's intensely hot pink, and unforgivably so.  Patting the color on your lips can lessen the intensity, but it's still a noticeable pink...probably not something your boss would like (unless you have a cool boss)?  I also don't think it looks very flattering against my complexion--probably a better fit if you're tanner.

But hey!  It's a slightly less intense, cheaper alternative to MAC's Candy Yum Yum, which is a good trade off.

Would I Repurchase?

Due to how it looks against my complexion, I'm going to pass on Fuchsia Flash.  This isn't to say it's a bad lipstick--in fact, it's a great lipstick--but it's just not right for me.

I think that shade looks really pretty on you! I personally had to pass on Candy Yum Yum as it was a little too bold for my liking. But patting on some Fuchsia Flash might be a nice compromise? Hmm...

  2. Definitely a great shade for going out to a party dancing, it's so cool! I could never pull it off, lol.

  3. It's a bit bold even for me lol.
