My Favorite Pink: MAC Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick [REVIEW]

Okay, I'll admit, I really don't know anything about Nicki Minaj, except that her wigs remind me of cotton candy...

But...this lipstick is for a good cause.

Officially known as MAC Viva Glam Nicki ($15.00 at, MAC describes this lipstick as a "bright yellow pink"--that sort of bright, quintessential Barbie pink that makes the 7 year old me squee.

And of course, you know, I had to buy the Viva Glam Nicki Lip Glass too.  They create this wonderful pairing of glossy, super pink lips that isn't quite Candy Yum Yum but just right for me.

Oh, and did I mention?  All proceeds go the MAC AIDS Fund, a fund dedicated to raising awareness of HIV and AIDS.

So, it's a wonderfully good cause.  I bought both the Lip Glass and lipstick, so that's $30.00 towards the MAC AIDS Fund. :)

Ah, a pink duo made in heaven...

Oh boy.  Warning to the chapped lips of the world: Viva Glam Nicki doesn't like you!

A quick swipe on the lips and suddenly my lips looked super flaky--and they felt dry too!  An odd thing considering the formula itself is quite creamy...

Turns out this is quite the problem.

Says Coleyyyful...
"With regards to those who suffer with dry lips, this lipstick could be either your enemy or your friend. Whilst it has a super creamy texture, it does cling to every single dry bit on your lips."

Says Feminsphere...
"You can tell that this color was chosen by Nicki Minaj. My only issue with it is that it’s a satin lipstick, which I hate because they cake up on my dry lips so easily."

On my lips, it looks like this--super pink, but slightly chalky and dry in certain areas:

Here are some really bad selcas of me since my camera lens that takes selcas is broken.
Okay, enough negativity, so here's some positivity...hmm, let's see...well it doesn't bleed!  Or feather.  It stays in place, right on your lips, and the opaqueness (full color in one coat) is out of this world.  You don't need lip liner.

My advice: If you're going to wear this and have horribly chapped lips, exfoliate beforehand and apply a lip balm before wearing Viva Glam Nicki.  It should even out application issues in a jiffy.

The wear?  It's good and also incredibly lightweight--with just a swipe of my lips, it feels like nothing's there, even though my lips are literally glowing pink.  No bleeding means no worrying about my lipstick suddenly migrating off my lips and onto my chin, cheeks, teeth, etc...

I've had that problem so many times with Urban Decay lipstick, so I try to be extra careful. :)

It also smells like vanilla!  Makes me crave bacon really bad.
Without lip liner, I'd say you can expect 5-6 hours of wear, depending on what you're doing throughout the day.  Just sitting around aimlessly working?  Viva Glam Nicki ain't going anywhere.  Suddenly decided to enter a hot dog eating contest against Furious Pete?  Well, it probably won't make 5 hours, but you can always reapply.

Okay, I'm sort of obsessed with the color of Viva Glam Nicki right now.  It's so incredibly bright pink, but it's more of a girly pink, not an in-your-face-80s-neon pink.  The color is true to bullet, and no, you really can't pat this on for a subtle wash of color, because I tried that and I ended up with bright pink lips.  No bueno!

I really love the brightness of this lipstick, but obviously if you're not into bold lipsticks, pick a more subtle pink instead.  My favorite subtle pink is MAC Lipstick in Creme Cup.

Would I Repurchase This?

Absolutely--but I'm not sure if Viva Glam Nicki would still be available?  It is limited edition after all, so if you haven't bought it yet, you might want to do that right now.
