Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pout [REVIEW]

It's pretty...and in pink!

Little story here.  I actually bought Smashbox's Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pout ($19.00 at Sephora) last year, when I was going out for an impromptu NYX stock up at the mall.  Then I sort of passed by this, saw how pink it was, swatched it, and knew I had to buy it...

My husband gave me a dirty look ("You're spending how much on lip gloss?"), but I bought it, and then it fell into the abyss.

Which is actually behind my dresser.

But a few months ago, I found it, and I've been wearing it to death ever since.  It's a keeper!

My addiction to pink cosmetics continues...

Application

Smashbox describes this lip gloss as a "sheer pastel pink," and I couldn't agree more.

This formula is definitely the crème de la crème, with it super-smooth, milky pink base that easily glides onto lips without settling into lip lines...

It also smells quite pleasant, if you're into smelling your lip gloss.  It smells like the type of fragrance your grandma would wear.  A bit of a powdery, floral smell.  Nice, if you're into that sort of smell.

This stupid wand!  Stupid!

Now here's what I don't like about this lip gloss: This stupid applicator wand!

You see that little nub of gloss?  That's all this applicator can pick up.  Maybe if you had the lips of a small child, this amount would be sufficient, but I have big adult lips here, so I need to dip this wand at least three times back into the gloss to cover just my bottom lip.

You know, I'd be smiling from ear to ear if this applicator wand was better at collecting lip gloss...

Wear

Pout is what I'd call a semi-sheer gloss (it gives color, but not too much), which wears nicely on its own or over lipstick.  It mutes out lip imperfections and makes your lips look milky smooth.

And it wears well.  1-2 hours on average, if you're not eating, but if you do, you obviously need to touch up.

Left: No lip makeup. Middle: Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pout applied. Right: The same lip gloss applied over MAC lipstick in Creme Cup.

Color

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know I like my pink lip products, so I'm hopelessly in love with Pout.  It truly lives up to its name as a lip enhancing gloss--my lips truly look full, and it's a lovely pastel pink that works well with my NW20 skin tone.  If you're a NW20, you'll love how Pout looks on your lips too!

Would I Repurchase?

Yes--but I am begging for a better applicator wand.  It's irritating to use, but I love the smoothness and color of this lip gloss!

XOXO,

Minsooky
